Day Six “Nevermind, Dick….I’ll come down for it…”

Feb 15

SF North

Today we worked the opening sequence. From the sound of it, the score for the entire show is going to be incredible, especially the opening sequence. I love that moment as an audience member (or even an actor) when the opening music of the show is perfectly in line with what I think the show is; or when its just a really cool song!

I worked on Sylvia today. I’m going in the direction of making her a little along the lines of Emily Blunt in Devil Wears Prada-ish; atleast the type of repor that her and Richard share feels very similar to Emily’s character and Anne Hathaway character. She is your typical misunderstood high strung executive assistant: skilled and extremely talented at what she does, works way too hard and never really gets the credit. Her tragic flaw: perhaps she may not be the funnest person to office chat with, also she totally uses her sexuality to her advantage.

I love playing Hunter and Sylvia equally, both have their benefits. Hunter with such depth, nuance, and physical activity. Sylvia with her delicious more subtle moments. Actually I wish I had more to do in this play as Sylvia. She’s alot of fun!

Day 3  Fight Workshop

Feb 13

SF Proper

Tonight was our first night of fight choreography. Andrew Amani is our chief in command on this production. He is amazing and I met him through another production so when I saw his name on the board for this I was stoked and knew I was in good hands!! We went through the basics: napping  kicks, punchs, tumbling, falling. Sadly I had to sit some of it out, due to my accident a few weeks ago. I feeling pretty confident that I will ready for the next round of choreography  Tonight I learned my introduction fight with Varney. I really like the style of it, clean quick, and lots of force. Kicks are something I’ve always felt pretty confident about so I’m just going to keep building and building…

Day 3 “Wait a moment…the Floating Market is in Harrods!?…”

Tonight we blocked the Floating Market scene. I loved what everyone was bringing to the table with the their different characters; bold interesting and unique choices. I imagine the floating market being a mix of the night markets in Ghana and Morocco: tented yet open with spices, treasure, meets, colors, random noises from bells and chimes, in every direction. And somehow all that fits and blends with Harrods. I still want to work on more specifics of the market. How big, how familiar,  etc, etc.

Day 2 “Active Power”

Feb 11

SF Proper

Today we worked on activate the story and speeding it up. The read thru was amazing but Scott really wanted us to work on timing and drive the story. Just when I was wanting to settle and indulge to my little heart out ;) We circled up and basically sped through the script doing our best to keep the speed and make the craziest choices possible (even if it doesn’t make much sense with the script). As scary as I was to jump in feeling so unprepared, it was a great exercise for me. Sometimes I get so stuck with preconceived choices that the character doesn’t move much. So thanks to Scott for getting me out of my head a bit and bringing up some interesting choices with Hunter….

Day One “The key is discovering where you’re really going…”

Feb 10, 2013

SF Proper

Yay for day one!! Here’s a mock up of the set design by Michael Schneider! And another photo of the amazing cast!!! (Left to Right) Bryan Krasner (Vandamar), Ezra Buzzington (Croup), ME, Devereau Chumrau (Hunter), Michael Homes (Richard Mayhew), Paula Rhodes (Lady Door), Jonathan Kells Phillips (Marquis de Carabas), Carlos Larkin (Gary/Islington), Marz Richards (Old Bailey/Earl), Julia Griswold (Puppeteer/Ensemble), Cassandra Vincent (Jessica/Lamia).

The Read Thru was amazing today. I just sat there in awe of all the talent in the room. Very humbling. I just couldn’t believe how blessed I was to be  apart of such a production, and I have such a great feeling about this production.
